...or so it appeared to be last Sunday! These pictures were taken from I-15 as we drove by Herriman. We had just spent a wonderful afternoon with family and were on our way home when we saw this! It was a very apocalyptic looking scene and very frightening to say the least because we have a daughter who lives in the foothills of Herriman and she was right behind us on the freeway probably wondering if her home was still standing. They quickly made their way to their home amid smoke and ashes and people leaving town...A short time after they arrived there they were soon evacuated. They grabbed their kids, their Birds, their dog, some PJ's and the hard drive. At times like this you realize that all you truly need is each other and "things" aren't important.
These are some pictures that she took from her back porch before evacuating!WAY TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT!
I don't know who David Adamic is, but he caught this great photo of the Jordan River LDS temple, with the Herriman fire blazing in the background. He titled it "Heaven and Hell" To us this speaks volumes! It was a truly horrific night for many, but God sent many, many miracles as well. Miracles came in the form of firefighters, family, friends, Good neighbors and community volunteers. Even the rains fell on the 3rd day to help contain the fire. We feel so blessed that our daughter's home was spared and that she and her family are safe and back home again.
